Nylon was the first synthetic fibre–forming plastic to achieve commercial success. It was first produced on 28 February 1935, by Wallace Hume Carothers, the Head of Organic Chemistry at E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company (DuPont).
DuPont is an American conglomerate that was founded as a gunpowder mill, in July 1802, in Wilmington, Delaware, by the French–American chemist and industrialist Éleuthère Irénée du Pont.
